Biography of Peter Max

Peter Max is one of the most important and most widely veiwed artists of our time.  He began as a visionary Pop Artist in the 1960's and has evolved as a master of neo-expressionism.  His vibrant color techniques have become a part of contemporary American culture.

Max is a passionate enviromentalist and a steadfast defender of both human and animal rights.  Max often uses American symbols and leaders in his work, and had done paintings and projects for Presidents Carter, Ford, Bush, Clinton, and Regan.  In 1994 Max painted the "Peace Accord" for the White House to commemorate the historic signing of the peace accord.

Max has created four Grammy Awards posters, created the redesigned NBC televisions "Peacock", was the official artist for five Super Bowls, the US Tennis Open, the World  Cup USA, and the NHL all-star game.

In response to the recent terrorist attacks of September 11th, he has created six  posters.  All proceeds from the sale of the posters were donated to the Twin Towers Fund, September 11th Fund, and the Survivors Fund.  He has not kept any money from the sale except the cost of shipping.

In October 2002, Max painted 356 portraits of the Firefighters who lost their lives in the terrorist attacks.  Each painting was given to the victims families at a ceremony at Madison Square Garden in New Youk City.  "The Art of Peter Max" was also written in 2002 by Charles Riley III, PhD., and published by Harry N. Abrams, Inc
